Mondi Mecja was appointed Country General Manager for Ascott Malaysia in September 2019, a role in which he is responsible for enhancing Ascott’s brand presence and driving commercial performance across the group’s Malaysian portfolio. With over 22 years of management experience in the hospitality industry, Mondi brings deep expertise across the full spectrum of hotel operations — from sales and marketing and revenue management to front and back of house operations, business development, and asset management.
Prior to joining Ascott, Mondi served as Area General Manager at Berjaya Group, overseeing four diverse properties: Berjaya Times Square Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Berjaya Tioman Resort, Berjaya Eden Park London Hotel, and The Castleton London Hotel. Before that, he held senior executive positions at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa Kuala Lumpur. Across his tenure with the Berjaya Group, the Starwood Group, and Sunway Hotels & Resorts, Mondi played a pivotal role in business development, operations, and the formalisation and standardisation of business systems and processes — instilling rigour and consistency across complex, multi-property organisations.
Beyond his operational achievements, Mondi is deeply passionate about giving back to the community. He is a firm believer in Creating Shared Value, embedding this philosophy into all facets of his professional work as an intrinsic part of service delivery and guest satisfaction. This commitment to people — both guests and the wider community — defines his approach to leadership and underscores his conviction that hospitality, at its best, is a force for genuine social good.
A holder of a Bachelor of Human Sciences degree, Mondi is also an active industry advocate, serving as Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Kuala Lumpur Chapter, where he has been a consistent and supportive presence across industry events and initiatives. His leadership and values were recognised with the Leadership Personality Award (Most Outstanding) at the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2018–2020.
